Formation of Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh holds a unique place in India’s history as the first state to be formed on a linguistic basis. On October 1, 1953, the Telugu-speaking regions were separated from the Madras Presidency, fulfilling the long-cherished dream of Telugu people for a state of their own. Later, in 1956, the Telangana region, which was under the Nizam’s rule, was merged with Andhra to form a unified Andhra Pradesh. This historic step symbolized the unity and cultural pride of Telugu-speaking people.
Formation of Telangana
After decades of people’s movements and aspirations for self-identity, Telangana was officially declared the 29th state of India on June 2, 2014. The formation of Telangana was a milestone in Indian history, reflecting the region’s unique cultural, social, and political identity. Today, Hyderabad serves as the shared capital for both states, while Andhra Pradesh is developing Amaravati as its new capital. Telangana’s formation stands as a testament to the spirit and resilience of its people.
